Geometric Gin

A few weeks ago, I walked into the Illovo Norman Goodfellows bottle store, in order to select a second gin that I could include as part of my gin journey. ( Side note, for anyone looking for a bottle store with a wide gin selection, this is the bottle store for you.)

Anyway, upon perusing the vast selections of gins, I came across the Geometric Gin Bottle. The first thing that attracted me to this Gin was the design of its bottle.

Obviously, lol.

Aesthetics are everything my darlings when trying out something new. 🤭🤭🤭

The bottle design is sleek, sexy and unique, and upon further research on the Gin, I learnt that its design was based on the dark green apothecary bottle from the 1800s.

These bottles were mainly used to store poisonous substances, and were coloured either: cobalt blue, inky black or dark green, to ensure that they were easily identifiable.

However, the actual name of the Gin was inspired by the endangered Geometric Tortoises. These tortoises are found in the Fynbos Western Cape region, where the first botanicals were picked for the Geometric Gin.

Something else I also found interesting about this Gin is how it is made. Unlike most South African gins that are usually made using either a natural grain spirit or neutral cane spirit. The Geometric Gin pays homage to how brandy is often made in SA, and uses a neutral wine spirit in its process.

In my mind, the above distinguishing factor in its production, has resulted in a gin that is smooth and wonderfully fragrant.

Honestly, this Gin was such a pleasant drink for me, and although I enjoyed it with my favourite usual garnishes being berries and mint. I would suggest drinking this Gin with a rind of orange or lemon and some thyme. Together with these garnishes I would suggest using the Fever Tree Indian Tonic that can be found at Woolworths.

Lastly, although this Gin falls within a more pricey range for gins, it is a worthwhile buy and I do hope guys give it a try.

Let the Gin journey continue...

(Please note that the pictures of the tortoise, tonic and dark green apothecary bottles don't belong to me.)
