Nice on 4th
As described on its website, Nice on 4th is definitely one of SA’s breakfast and brunch hotspots.
I have been here a few times now for breakfast, and can fully understand why the restaurant refers to itself as such. Nice on 4th is positioned perfectly in Parkhurst, which is known for its great restaurants, and vibey ambiance. Especially on a Saturday morning. Which, in my opinion, is always the perfect time for a champagne breakfast.
My Specialty.
From the great service,as the manager warmly checks in to each table to ensure you’re having a good time, to its quaint feel, and of course it beautiful and delicious food. I have never been disappointed when I visit this place for breakfast, and neither has anyone that I have brought with me, or suggested the place to.
I am a full believer in Wendy Leon’s saying, “You eat first with your eyes, then your nose, then your mouth.” Nice on 4th seems to have also fully comprehended the importance of this saying, as they have managed to present normal breakfast in a quirky distinctive manner. Instead of serving bacon and eggs in the traditional straightforward manner, they serve it in a delicious looking savoury cupcake form. Yummy.
Side note good-looking food excites me.
In addition to the above, if you are feeling for a sweeter breakfast, I would suggest their crumpets. These are scrumptious and fluffy, and served with bacon and strawberries. I mean what more could one want.
Or if you want the best of both worlds, you can enjoy a savoury breakfast with a side of their delicious baked goods. Otherwise, their half & half meal option is also a good choice. As it allows you to have a combination of a half egg basket and half crumpets.
Similarly there are other healthier breakfast options (Shout out to my salmon, vegetarian and fruit lovers). I have however, chosen to share my favourite breakfast options only.
Lastly, what would breakfast be without champagne?
With your breakfast you can order a glass of Method Cap Classique aka sparkling wine. Then again, I’m here for the fancy life, so Method Cap Classique it is.
Or if you feel like splurging you can order an entire bottle of Method Cap Classique, Champagne or Proscecco. Honestly, Nice does not stock a wide variety, but they do stock the classic favourites. So there is something for all the bubbly lovers.
In conclusion, I genuinely enjoy this place, and consider it a definite must see.

Il Contadino
This breakfast favourite of mine can once again also be found on the bustling streets of Parkhurst. It is situated on a cute little corner, where you can bask in the sun's warmth as you are transported to a place that makes you feel like you could be somewhere else and not on the streets of Johannesburg feel.
I have only ever been here once, so I don’t have an extensive knowledge of the menu, but from what I did experience it was great. My sister ordered a breakfast burrito which was presented in a simple but very stylish, and homey form. Everything was cooked really well i.e. her eggs and bacon were not over cooked. Which surprisingly, I have been to a lot of places where restaurants get this wrong.
I on the other hand ordered what I could refer to as a breakfast sandwich stack, I can’t remember the actual name of the meal. * Hides face*
However, my breakfast sandwich stack was beautifully presented on delicious freshly baked bread, with crispy bacon, succulent sausage, cherry tomatoes and an excellently prepared poached egg.
Long story short it was divine. If I wasn’t in public I could have licked my plate. LOL.
Also because I’m a boozer, what is breakfast without a bit of liquid spice that makes everything nice?
To accompany my meal I ordered a mojito, as I decided to give the champers a break. It was really well prepared, and served in a cute short glass with a funky solid clear plastic straw. Definitely would give it an A for presentation.
Overall, I’m definitely going back for a round two and welcome all those interested.

Salvation Café
This gem of a place is situated in 44 Stanley. One of Johannesburg’s revitalised pockets where urban sophistication meets creativity.
Salvation Café is one of few restaurants that can be found within the shady green courtyards.
The last time I visited this place however it was a cold spring day, and hence we sat inside instead of outside in the beautiful courtyard. Nevertheless, we were placed next to a cosy fire so we had no complaints.
The breakfast here is good, and they serve very hearty portions that ensure that you get value for your money. Their presentation is all about chic simplicity, which fits in with the vibe of the restaurant.
Breakfast wise, I would suggest their normal breakfast, breakfast burritos or their pancakes. All are delicious options.
In addition to the above, I need to take a moment to make special mention here of their New York Cheesecake which is served with berry coulis.
Delicious! Delicious! Delicious!
This place is a must try in my opinion. So go forth and be great friends.
